Association of Antenatal Corticosteroid use with Hypoglycaemia and Hyperbilirubinemia in Preterm Neonates Admitted in a Tertiary Hospital of Kolkata: A Longitudinal Study

   AbstractBackground: Timely use of antenatal corticosteroids in a mother preterm labour decreases the rates ofperinatal death, respiratory distress syndrome, intra-ventricular hemorrhage, necrotizing enterocolitis inthe new borns. However it is reported to have causative role neonatal hypoglycemia and hyperbilirubinemia.So present study attempts determine association between withhypoglycaemiaand hyperbilirubinemia newborns with less than 35 weeks gestational age.Methods: A prospective observational was conducted during time period 24 months from January 2020to December 2021 tertiary care hospital Kolkata on 99 neonates gestationalage. Antenatal history corticosteroid use, glucose level bilirubin were measured amongothers. Data analyzed using MS-EXCEL.Results: Majority neonates’ mothers (71.7%) had received corticosteroids. Only 4.0% cases hadhypoglycaemia at birth. But there no hypoglycaemia 12 hour after In 58.6% ofthe phototherapy range double surface photo therapy required. 14.1%of volume exchange transfusion required.Conclusion: administration not associated but issignificantly related hyperbilirubinemia.
